Juniper Networks Secure Access 6500
- SSL VPN appliance solution designed for large enterprises and service providers
- Multi-unit clustering enables virtually limitless scalability of secure LAN, intranet and extranet access
- Enables service providers to deliver network-based SSL VPN managed services
Overview
The Juniper Networks SA 6500 SSL VPN is purpose-built for large enterprises and service providers. It features best-in-class performance, scalability and redundancy for organizations with high-volume secure access and authorization requirements. The SA 6500 hardware platform is designed to scale to the largest enterprise deployments and to optimize application delivery, with redundant, hot-swappable hard disks and fans, optional second power supply, as well as multiple Ethernet ports for redundant or meshed configurations. The SA 6500 appliance also features a hardware-based SSL acceleration module to speed CPU-intensive encrypt/decrypt processes, as well as built-in compression for all traffic.
The SA 6500 uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), available in all Web browsers, as a means of secure transport. This appliance enables the enterprise to provide remote access to mobile employees and contractors without deploying client software, as well as secure extranet or intranet access with no DMZ build-out, server hardening, Web agent deployments or ongoing maintenance.

Options
Secure Meeting
Juniper Networks' Secure Meeting option enables enterprises instantly and securely to provision online meetings and user-to-user collaboration. The Secure Meeting option is a cost-effective, easy-to-use "point and click" Web conferencing tool that, like SSL VPN, requires no software to be deployed and enables communication between virtual teams to share applications in real time. It is a flexible cross-enterprise infrastructure with no operating system dependencies, offering the high level of security of SSL VPN while it even has integrated Microsoft Outlook™ invitation capabilities.
Clustering
Secure Access offers clustering for high availability to multiply aggregate throughput for unexpected bursts in traffic and mitigating resource-intensive application use, as well as providing stateful failover capabilities from one appliance to another.
SSL Acceleration
SSL hardware acceleration module (optional for SA 4500 & included with SA 6500) enhances performance by offloading intensive encrypt/decrypt processes from the CPU.
ICE (In Case of Emergency)
The need for remote access capabilities in the event of a disaster (e.g. pandemic) can put a sudden strain on remote connectivity requirements as more employees, partners and customers suddenly create a burst of demand. ICE delivers on that sudden peak in demand by enabling a company to make an immediate response by expanding remote-access connectivity in a cost-effective manner. ICE (available for SA 4500 & SA 6500) provides licenses for a large number of additional users on a Secure Access SSL VPN appliance for a limited time.
Instant Virtual Systems (IVS)
IVS (available for SA 4500 & SA 6500) is a framework that enables administrators or service providers to completely segment SSL VPN traffic between multiple groups or customers within a single appliance/cluster. IVS features complete application-layer, network-layer and access management virtualization so that end groups can have the experience of their own SSL VPN deployment while the administrator only has to manage one device or cluster.
Accessories
A variety of accessories including spare racks and power cords is available for Secure Access.
